R.U.S.E. won’t be released until 17 September, but for this weekend only, anyone can play the preview.

From now until this Sunday, 18 July at 1PM Pacific Standard Time (9PM UK Time), anyone with a Steam account can play the game. Simply login or sign up for a Steam account and then download R.U.S.E.*. The free multiplayer weekend includes a “sizeable slice” of the multiplayer game with new maps, six playable factions and up to eight players in team or free-for-all combinations. You can also play with medium and hard AI opponents.

Dragon Age 2 confirmed, first details here!

da2_logo_psd_jpgcopy

“Dragon Age 2 will simultaneously deliver an epic story and set a new bar for intense action in the genre,” says said Dr. Ray Muzyka, Senior Vice President of Electronic Arts and co-founder of BioWare. Frankly we’re inclined to believe him too, not least considering quite how well Dragon Age: Origins was received by the gaming press. Plus, he’s a doctor. It’s still surprising to hear quite how well the original did for BioWare, especially when you consider some of the massive names they already have in their portfolio, but if Dr. Ray says it’s one of the most successful launches in their 15-year  history, who are we to argue?

According to the RPG legend Dragon Age 2 will revolutionise the genre all over again by ‘infusing the universe with more action, a new, more responsive combat system and an even more dynamic story.’ It’s expected to follow the rise to power of Hawke, a survivor of the Blight and a character BioWare say with transform the world of Dragon Age and will become the most important character in the game universe.

Dragon Age 2 Executive Producer Mark Darrah says the sequel – set to span a ten year period – stands as a new entry point into the game universe, but one that will retain familiarity for fans of the original. “We are amplifying the things that made Dragon Age: Origins such a huge success while introducing a more dynamic combat system, improving the graphics, and telling the most important story in our world.”

Dragon Age 2 is currently scheduled to hit the streets in March 2011 and will be available on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Excited? Let us know why on the Forum, or check out some of our other BioWare stories here. If you’re wondering what all the fuss is about, check out Ben’s excellent review on NowGamer.com – if that doesn’t get your RPG juices flowing, nothing will…

Star Wars: The Old Republic E3 Multiplayer demo

Bioware is now showing off its Star War: The Old Republic E3 multiplayer demo on the official SWTOR website. SWTOR

It features a Jedi Consular, Jedi Knight, Smuggler and Trooper repelling the attack of Imperial Troopers and two Imperial Breach Droids. Each of the classes (healer, tank, stealth and melee respectively) fulfil the archetypal MMORPG roles to get the job done, which has elicited mixed reactions from the Bioware player community. Many, who leave their comments in the section below the video, are happy with the direction Bioware has taken the MMORPG in:

“This looks cool,” said Israfill, “I dont know who else played Star Wars Galaxies but I really hope that this game gives the freedom that usually comes with an mmo.”

Others, like DarthMadLove, are not so optimisitic, “Damn… it looks like WOW geared toward an even younger demographic… If that’s even possible. They say the ’story’ i.e. the writing is what is going to separate this game from all the others just like it. I’m afraid my faith in video game writers just isn’t as strong as I’s like it to be.”

Personally – and having had some hands-on time with the game ourselves – we’re really looking forward to SW: TOR. But why don’t you check out the E3 Multiplayer demo trailer on the official website, judge for yourself and let us know what you think?
